Today, Russell Standard, family owned, employs over 350 workers servicing virtually every municipality in the region.
Russell Standard offers both new construction and maintenance of virtually any asphalt-related project, from private
driveways to interstate highways. Additionally, Russell Standard is a manufacturer of asphalt materials, emulsions and coatings.
In the more than 70 years since Niles E. Russell founded Russell Standard Corporation, the company has become a leading industry
innovator, introducing new and proprietary paving products, processes and machinery to address the needs of modern road construction.
Russell was the first contractor in the state of Pennsylvania to offer road reclamation services; an ideal solution for repairing
many of the region’s secondary roads.

Company History

In the spring of 1929, Niles E. Russell founded Russell Standard Corporation to distribute municipal supplies throughout southwest
Pennsylvania. Within two years, Russell Standard began operating as a general contractor when they were awarded contracts to expand
several municipal parks.
By the late 30’s, Russell was building rural roads to facilitate the transport of agricultural goods to and from local farms.
Soon after, the company began distributing liquid asphalt for road building.
In the following decades, paving crews, hot mix asphalt plants, and liquid asphalt emulsion plants were added to the Russell
family of products and services.
Niles E. Russell operated his company with an acute awareness that only the most reliable contractors would consistently be
awarded new projects. That understanding became the foundation of the company’s work ethic. The success and growth of Russell
Standard Corporation can largely be attributed to our adherence to that principle.
