Mercer, Pa (Sept. 2014) – The goal of any manufacturing facility is to provide a safe working environment and producing a high quality product. As a good community neighbor, the Russell Standard emulsion plant in Mercer, PA invites local firefighters to tour the facility with gear to obtain a clear understanding of the plant’s physical layout. The tour will provide critical insight such as: the location of the water supply and natural gas shut off, the location and chemistry of raw materials and finished products, and where to use foam and water to extinguish flames.
New this year, this invitation is extended to the Health and Safety Department of Slippery Rock University. Future engineers, plant managers and safety managers will learn real-world safety applications, and how manufacturing plants and first responders can work together to eliminate a potential crisis.
Approximately 40 firefighters and students are expected to attend.
