FiberMat® at Southpoint Park in Cecil Township, PA

Southpoint is a 610-acre multi-use park with over 300 businesses ranging from corporate headquarters to light manufacturing, in addition to residential and a golf course. This results in high average daily traffic of over 12,000 vehicles of all weight ranges. 

The Challenge

Overall, the municipality has a network with approximately 100 lane miles. Bill Bottorff, the Director of Public Works, uses a range of techniques from crack seal, seal coating, FiberMat® and reconstruction, when needed, to treat 10 - 15% of the network on average every year. 

Resident Impact

FiberMat® is ideal for higher traffic roads with good substrate without physical deformation. The ability to add years of service life to a road where the aggregate has degraded because of UV, cracking or utility repair is the key benefit provided by the glass fiber strands embedded in the emulsion.  

The process itself is innovative," said Boltroff. "I can take a road ready for mill and fill in a year or two and with a combination of crack sealing and FiberMat® I expect to pick up three to four years of service life, minimum.

Four years after application, the roads are still going strong.
